Each term we refresh our workshops with new themes and ideas.  All our workshops are aligned with one of the following broad workshop outlines.

[101] Exploring Nature Drawing, Printmaking, Painting, Mixed Media, Sculpture
Whether we are observing and being inspired by nature or we are using nature as a source of sculpting materials, this workshop enables participants to let their imagination run wild. Participants will complete some fun mixed-media activities while learning  construction techniques.  With their new and refined skills and lots of inspiration participants will create their own nature-based sculpture, painting, or mixed media work.
[102] Dreamscapes, Moonscapes, Landscapes -  Drawing, Printmaking, Painting, Mixed Media, Sculpture
It is time to look to the horizon.  In this workshop participants will learn painting and mixed-media techniques, and basic principles of composition in order to represent a landscape, a moonscape or a dreamscape. We aim to help participants view their subject and their art making with fresh eyes, to be patient with themselves and the process, and focus on the pleasure of creating art.
[103] Assemblage - Mixed Media, Sculpture
Participants will complete fun activities  while learning  how to select appropriate found objects They will also learn useful construction techniques.  With their new and refined skills and lots of inspiration participants will work individually to create an assemblage from a variety of materials, found objects and fixings.
[104] Wild Life - Drawing, Printmaking, Painting, Mixed Media, Sculpture
In this workshop participants will learn drawing and mixed-media techniques They will learn basic principles of proportion and tone.   We aim to help participants view their subject and their art making with fresh eyes, to be patient with themselves and the process, and focus on the pleasure of creating art.
[105] Mechanical Sculptures - Sculpture & Design
Inspired by the mechanical  and anatomical drawings of Leonardo Da Vinci, in this workshop students create their own moving sculptures. Creating cams, cogs and spindles students explore some basic mechanical principles. Participants might make a bird that pecks or flaps its wings, a dancing figure, a carousel or an abstract sculpture. Participants will learn the construction techniques needed to create their own Da Vinci inspired sculpture.
[106] Model Making - Design and construction
Participants are assisted with construction techniques that will build a strong, long-lasting creation.  (This workshop is particularly helpful for students who are asked to make models and dioramas at school.) After we have photographed our village, participants will be able to take home the individual elements they have created.
[107] Botanica Drawing, Mixed Media, sculpture
In this workshop participants will learn drawing and mixed-media  and sculpture techniques They will learn basic principles of proportion and tone.   We aim to help participants view their subject and their art making with fresh eyes, to be patient with themselves and the process, and focus on the pleasure of creating art.
[108] Masks & Me -  Painting, Mixed Media
Creating art can be relaxing and therapeutic.  In this workshop students have the time needed to explore ideas and examine materials, techniques, tools and their surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens. Participants will explore the symbols that represent them. Using painting and mixed media they will complete some fun mixed-media activities and create elaborate masks displayed on staffs representing their inner animal spirit.

The process of making art. Lessons in life.

Inspired by stained glass windows, L aged 7, has planned and created this pony painting. Taking time to arrange ideas and organise materials before realising the final art work is an important and transferable skill.  Children often rush their work because adults rush them. Let's give them time to learn and enjoy the process.  Here L has also learned about colour mixing and values, composition, brush techniques.    ...and had fun doing it.

Cosmic Capers Summer 2024

Cosmic Capers . Space kitties. Rocket ships. Experimenting with paint. Electric erasers. That's a wrap for the Summer holidays.

Term 2 Wrap

A fun way to end term 2 after school art class. The students asked if they could paint on canvas. They agreed on a lily pad and koi painting. This is the work of K, aged 9. Our class is growing and we are having so much fun. Can't wait to see what art adventures next term brings. This was a guided painting lesson. While student led individual designs are celebrated in the studio, this activity allows me to demonstrate brush techniques and paint application. The students report that they enjoy using "real" paint brushes and mixing paint. The photo is a little washed out as one of the studio lights was off.
